Shifter chatters under load..
Have a strange problem.. under heavy load my shifter will actually chatter, you can stop it if you hold it with your hand... its one of those cheap SLP short throws, gonna put the factory one back in and see if it goes away.. any thoughts?

The one I drive 2000 ws6 and my buddies 2002 ws6 do the same thing i think you are descirbing under heavy acceleration but you can't hear it in the 2002 any more with the new exhaust on it! by the way we both have short throw shifter's with no rubber bushings to quiet them down.

I had the Hurst shifter. It never rattled. Then it broke at the base. So I bought a PRO 5.0 and it rattles a little under hard acceleration. Hurst sent me a BILLIT PLUS replacement (much better than the cheesy one the 97SS came with), but I'd rather the PRO 5.0!!

Yeah mine does the same thing when im in third under hard acceleration. I have taken it to about 3 different shops and they all said that there is no problem it must just be noisy.

Does any one know if you can change the shifter and make the noise go away?

my SLP short throw did the same thing but i took the boot off and discovered that the 4 bolts that mount it to the tranny were coming loose

You can easily change the shifter if you think thatits worn . Also check the boot condition as any tear or hole will allow a considerable amount of noise to come in the cabin. Do an inspection of the torque arm and cross member mounts as well. Loosness there can shake things up too.

I also have a factory Hurst with the std upper handle/stick and it has no concerns what-so-ever. It shifts perfrectly and I do not try to blame my shifter on driver error.People who spout the bennys of the pro 5.0 do not have the composure to shift like a true pro . Thats ok because pro 5.0 will take their money every day. Ask Wusman he has one.

You need to stop.
First off, the stock Hurst shifter sucks. Its a piece of junk, the rubber bushing makes shifting imprecise and isolated. If you like it then good for you. But don't come on here telling people that the Pro 5.0 is a waste of money or any of that crap, its an excellent shifter and one of the best made for our cars. Many people will agree, its a huge improvement over the stock unit.
You say that its only driver error?? So the fact that the Hurst is imprecise and often causes you to miss 3rd gear is completely "driver error"?? I guess everyone s a bad driver except for you, right??
You've got serious issues there guy, and making fun of my username is just plain childish. Grow up.

Wow , your life must be really slow and boring to bring up a thread from last year. It would seem you still have issues.
I didn't say I was a pro at shifting but , actually, I did say I do not blame the shifter for my errors, take better notes and get a life. If you broke the rubber isolator bushing you are shifting way too hard.
