Removing Trans with Solid Motor Mounts??!!!
My slave died on me and I started tearing into everything to replace it.
Well I got it torn down to the 8 tranny bolts but for the life of me couldnt get at the top pass side bolt.
I couldnt get a socket or extensions even to it as the top of the trans was too close to the bottom of the car.
This must be due to having solid motor mounts and there being NO flex to anything...the trans does not drop AT ALL when not supported.
Has anyone pulled the trans on a car with solid motor mounts? if so HOW THE F did you do it??
Would I be able to lower the K member at all to lower engine/trans to get at it?
Otherwise im screwed here with a car that I cant drive!Last edited by bryceslu; 04-10-2011 at 02:58 PM.

I would try loosening up the Kmember. Support it and loosen all the Kmember bolts then slowly lower it. If its not enough, then loosen up the bolts more

You might want to disconnect the steering column shaft from the rack and pinion. and maybe the pop the intake lid off the base. Most other things should flex enough to lower the K about 1 inch...maybe 2 inches. Just keep an eye on throttle cables, AC and heater hoses, wiring, fuel lines, brake lines, radiator hose, etc. Stuff like that. Also the oil pressure sending unit might hit the firewall and break, so watch that too.
