    rebuild question

hey guys i am probably going to be buying a 98 ws6 m6 here soon. and well the owner says the 5th synchro is going out. so my questions are this. Is there really any rush to send it in and get it rebuilt? Second one is how much down time is ussually involved with sending a car in for a rebuild? What parts should i replace once i get the trans dropped? and lastly is the 3-4 fork the only fork i can get in steel? thanks for the help guys.

3-4 is the weak one in the stock tranny.

5th synchro?? Who needs 5th?? 6th is there for a reason.

I don't EVER shift hard into 5th gear.
It is an overdrive gear. Not meant for racing.

well the 3-4 fork is really shitty and gets abused. I actually think that not even in the viper is there 1-2 and 5-6 steel. i think they are layered kevlar

when i got my 99 ta the 5th syncros were really bad and that was about 2 months ago. id just shift from 4th to 6th and wait for the 3rd syncros to go and trust me if your car has any kind of miles on them one hard shift and youll be needing the 3-4 so id just wait till then and go for the works when your ready im planning to replace the shift forks, bearings, syncros, and geting 3rd and 4th mycronized in a couple months

when I had my A4 tranny built up to support the new 402 motor, they sent it to a specialized tranny shop it took 3 weeks all together, only too 2 days to built it up but shipping it took the longest.

you dont need fifth gear and when you do you'll be on the highway. shit, who powershifts into fifth anyway? its not like your gonna burn the tires....
and shouldnt you be crossing the trap in 4th with the 3:42s and the 4:10s??
i say save your money for mods that will directly affect performance in a good way.

I believe the 3-4 is the only one you can get in steel.
