NBM- 00 Trans AM
I'm thinking something's about to go....
Ok, Trans is starting to make a loud gear whining sound once it heats up. Just started doing it about a week and a half ago. Begins to be noticable at about 2000rpm and increases in volume the higher it's revved. Checked fluid....no leaks and it's topped off. Takes about half an hour to an hour of driving before it begins to start whining.
It's a 2000 T56 with about 44K miles on it.
Should I start looking around for a new trans at this point, or maybe just throw $25 of synthetic trans fluid (I hear mobil 1 is the way to go) and see if it makes a difference?

I was thinking so. It sounds like the sounds is coming more from underneath the center of the car, more than the rear end.

well if you only hear it when its in gear and not just a certain speed (in neutral or clutch engaged), then that will tell you if it's the tranny or the rear end. If its just whining at a certain speed out of gear then thats the rear end and I wouldn't worry about that too much, a lot of 'em have it from what I hear. And yeah a tranny fluid flush after 7 years (although manual trannies don't need it as often) probably isnt too bad of an idea.
