having trouble getting into 1st

lately i have to either go into 2nd, then slide into first, or i have to clutch in, put in neutral, clutch out, then clutch in then back into 1st. i noticed that my clutch is getting worn, just from the way it releases a little higher then it used to. it's not slipping or anything yet, is this related?

really, why does a worn out clutch disc cause that??
also, i noticed even when the car is off it has trouble going into first....could this be some sort of shirt fork problem? possible tranny fluid needs to be changed?

I had my tranny fluid changed and it did make shifting a little easier. I would sometimes have a little trouble going into first also. When I drove the car everyday though it didn't seem as bad.
