Is your car currently an M6 or Automatic??

It should definitely work, but some modifications may be needed to adapt it to the F-Body. The bellhousing bolt pattern will be the same, but the clutch hydraulics may be different. Swapping to an F-body bellhousing should fix the issue, should there be any. The gear ratios are slightly different in the GTO, 1st gear is a 2.97:1 compared to a 2.66:1 in an F-Body, and the 6th gear ratio is a .57:1 instead of a .50:1. If you have stock 3.42 gears, that measn you will get better acceleration in 1st but slightly higher RPM's on the highway in 6th.

If you have an automatic, you will also need the crossmember, driveshaft, pedals, hydraulics, and console from an M6 car, which is a much more complex swap.

I am doing a swap. All I'm getting is the tranny... no hydraulics, cross-member, pedals, etc. So, my question is..... will it simply bolt up?
And ill need to get all that other stuff any ways. Is there any tips you can give me for this swap?

I do have the 3.42 gears

So I'm assuming your car is a 6 speed manual now then...correct?? The pedals and crossmember should work fine, not sure on the hydraulics though. You may need the hydraulic system off of a GTO for it to work properly.

Oh so you have an automatic then - which means you can't possibly have 3.42 gears, unless you changed them out. Autos only came with 2.73's or 3.23's, with the 3.23's only in the SS/WS6 cars. So perhaps you have 3.23's then??

If the trans has the hydraulics then that is very good. However, you will still need to buy an M6 pedal set, M6 center console, M6 F-Body driveshaft, a shifter (go with a Pro 5.0 if you can, they are excellent), an F-Body M6 crossmember and mount, an LS1 clutch set (you could go with the LS6 or LS7 clutch if you want a stronger one), and an LS1/LS6/LS7 flywheel. Some clutch kits come as a complete set, including the flywheel though. You will also have to either swap out the ECU for one out of an M6 car or get it tuned so that it isn't trying to control the automatic transmission, not sure if thats possible though.

I can give you plenty of advice in terms of installing the transmission itself, as I just swapped a TH350 for a 4 speed in my friends 74 Nova. However, that uses a manual linkage, no ECU, and the pedal setup is much simpler, so I can't help too much in those areas.

Yes I did change the rears from 2.73 to a 3.42. See my problem is I had just dumped over $1000 in my automatic.
3500 stall transgo shift and a billit servo. And after 500 miles 1st gear locked up. I fucked with if for a couple of weeks. And had enuff. No more automatics .
I want a 6speed and got one out of a gto now i just need to put it in. If you know any body that could used that stall or servo will sell them cheap or just sell the hole tranny 4l60e with 10,000 miles on it and 500 on the new stuff. I was told it is a fluid problem in the valve body.
