    Emergency brake?????

I was pulling up on my brake lever and it came waaaayyyyy up> i mean a perfect 90 degree angle and the brakes would not hold. Then i put it down and retried it and it worked. Has done this a few times, has any body had this problem? How did you go about fixing it, or what is the matter with my lever?

I have an A4 and rarely use mine - but it's happened to me a few times over the years...think it's just one of those things that happens once in a while if you pull it up real fast.

Yep...no problems, just let it back down and it should be fine.

There is an adjuster on the e-brake very similar to the star wheel on a drum brake setup. A lot of times, the rubber dust cover over the lever has deteriorated and this allows moisture into the brake assembly.

I would pull the wheels, unbolt the caliper and caliper bracket and then pull the rotor. You can then check the operation and condition of the parking brake. If it is rusted up, you will need to disassemble it further. I would use the synthetic caliper grease on it in lieu of anything else.

Here's a pic of what it looks like (before and after pic from when I refurbished mine):

the ebrake is controlled by a cable, that might need adjusting, does the ebrake hold the car still if its on a hill or does it roll?

The ebrake cable is self adjusting by pulling the lever 3 times. If that doesn't fix your problem then you need to pull the wheels
