    Clutch Swap

Does a 99 WS6 T/A use the same clutch, pressure plate as the GTO's? I thought I had a slave cylinder but someone told me the GTO uses a throwout bearing? So is that the only difference or are the clutch assemblies different also. Thanks

The '99 T/A has a LS1 clutch and the '04 GTO has a LS6 clutch. But they are both interchangible. The LS6 came on '01 or '02 and up LS1 f-bodies and 'vettes.

Both cars have both a throwout bearing and a slave cylinder. The throwout bearing is attached to the slave cylinder. They come as one piece from GM. Yes autozone, advanced, etc. will sell you them in 2 pieces but since you have the tranny out i would just replace both. Will save you the trouble of pulling the tranny twice.

Thanks for the advice. My trans am has about 35,000 miles on it and a buddy upgraded his GTO clutch with just a couple thousand miles on it and I was thinking about getting his for when mine wore out.

yep, if you can get a good deal from your buddy it wouldn't be a bad idea to throw a nice clutch on the side. But depending how you drive it, your stock clutch can last a very long time. I just upgraded from my stock clutch. It had 78k on it and still had a lot of material left on it.
