clutch help T56
I have owned my Z-28 since new back in 1999. A couple weeks ago I went to the track and ran my Z28 for the first time. I did not hook up so I only ran it once. After that run my car smelled like burnt clutch. I went home that night and ever since that day every time I drive (maybe once week) my Z28 it smells like burnt clutch. Is my clutch going out? do I need to replace it? what is the best clutch in the market?

Time for a new one. You may be able to use it for some time butt forget about racing. Heard those twin discs are awesome put cost plenty. I got a spec stage three. Sucks in bumper to bumper traffic other than that there great.

Spec makes a good clutch, I have a custom cluctchmasters and love it, holds really well. McLeod is top of the line though. If your not a huge racer then the ls7/ls2 combo may be a great option

Spec is a hit or miss company, i had a spec 3+ and it was done in 3000 miles i called them when it was acting up they said i didnt allow it to settle and told me to beat the piss out of it to let it get seated (bad idea) i sent it in after i had to get my car towed lol. The guy said they couldnt do anything for me cause it was far to burnt up to tell weather it was driver or bad clutch but it was a bad cluctch i waited 1000 miles before i womped on it, sorry for the novel. But ive also heard some very good things but alot of bad things!! just FYI and cartek is very good but you pay for it

It depends on the extent of your mods, however I'm putting out over 570 rwhp on the spray and I haven't had a bit of trouble from my LS7 clutch. The clutch retains stock driveability (smooth and quiet), however it just has a LOT more holding power -- no more sticky pedal.

I have a spec stage III ceramic disc and it is on its way out. Hardly ever raced it and never burned the tires with it. IMO its a piece of junk for how much it costs. My ls2 clutch held up much better even with a nitrous kit. Also the clutch chatters like a mother. I would go for a LS7... many people are satisfied with it.
