    Clutch

How do you tell if your clutch is goin out?

My tranny is grindin when I downshift to 1st with the clutch to the floor. Sometimes goin from 4th to 2nd it ground a couple times, but its never done it 3rd to 2nd.

Could be the synchros in the tranny. When you downshift into first are you still moving when it grinds? If so how fast?

I don't know dude, I always got the impression that it was bad to downshift into first unless your hardly moving at all. I would stop doing that. If you clutch isn't fully disengaging then it may cause this. but since it's only in particular gears it's your tranny...

find a hill, put your car in 6th gear around 60-70 MPH, then punch it as you are going up the hill... if your RPMs shoot up then come back down, then you start to gain speed--your clutch is about shot.
That is the quickest and easiest way to tell if your clutch is slipping.

thanks I was wondering the same thing, I was thinking that my clutch was about to go since there is 108k mi on the origianal one I would assume.

My car has just been starting to "slip" like that only it does it in almost every gear if you punch it. I was wondering if it could be some sort of problem with the linkage?

It also pops out of gear occasionally, especially 4th. But I figured it was a clutch and I have plans to replace it next Friday if it will last that long.
