tranny cooler
i need suggestions on a tranny cooler. i have ordered the transgo hd2 shift kit and i am on the market for a cooler so i can have them put in at the same time. which brands and btus should i be looking for. and hopefull something that isn't to pricey either. my plans are very mild for a good while so i dont want something that is overkill right off the bat either im going for full bolt ons and suspension before i get crazy with internals. but for at least another year it will be a dd so im concentrating on building a car that will handle the power and i will wait on the power for now.
and i used the search function but it didn't help that much for coolers other than installs but i figured we need a thread for the coolers.Last edited by 00z28bubba; 11-02-2008 at 01:43 PM.

This is a good one similar to the one I run. I got mine from advanced auto for $60. Diffinitly go with the radiator style and not the tube and fin ones. Oh and if you dont have one already get a stall 3500 or bigger best mod I've done to date.Last edited by Z28_06374; 11-02-2008 at 05:24 PM.

I picked up a 8x12" tranny cooler form NAPA, if you go to any decent parts store they have an assortment of coolers to choose from and are usually quite affordable $45-75

This is the style of cooler that is the most efficient. Sometimes you have to state the obvious, though.
Do not put anything larger than a 10-12,000gvw cooler on unless you are running a high stall converter. Keeping the tranny fluid too cool causes sludge problems. 180°-200° is a good range.A4 w/3.23s. 245-50x16 Kuhmo M550AS. MTI w/K&N & FRA, Hooker 'Cat-back', BMR LCAs. 1LE sway bar, urathane bushings, Bilstein HDs f&r. Granatelli SFCs, KVR cross-drilled front rotors with PBR "Metal Master" pads.

i am going to go with the cooler that z mentioned because that style is highly recommended to me, it has a nice price tag on it and there is a summit warehouse in nevada so that means 2 day shipping. but if anyone else has any more info feel free to chime in for future references, and thanks to all above who had some input

I use a 24k B&M cooler. Works great with my 3500 stall. Keeps the tranny temp around 160 or below.

This probably sounds stupid but i thought our cars came with tranny coolers. mine has one mounted right in front of the radiator. it's about 3/4 of the size of the radiator, (mabey smaller), but looks like it came that way.

I too am using the B&M 24K cooler coupled to a B&M 3qt deeper aluminum pan.
