    tranny cooler

i need suggestions on a tranny cooler. i have ordered the transgo hd2 shift kit and i am on the market for a cooler so i can have them put in at the same time. which brands and btus should i be looking for. and hopefull something that isn't to pricey either. my plans are very mild for a good while so i dont want something that is overkill right off the bat either im going for full bolt ons and suspension before i get crazy with internals. but for at least another year it will be a dd so im concentrating on building a car that will handle the power and i will wait on the power for now.

and i used the search function but it didn't help that much for coolers other than installs but i figured we need a thread for the coolers.

This is a good one similar to the one I run. I got mine from advanced auto for $60. Diffinitly go with the radiator style and not the tube and fin ones. Oh and if you dont have one already get a stall 3500 or bigger best mod I've done to date.

I picked up a 8x12" tranny cooler form NAPA, if you go to any decent parts store they have an assortment of coolers to choose from and are usually quite affordable $45-75

This is the style of cooler that is the most efficient. Sometimes you have to state the obvious, though.
Do not put anything larger than a 10-12,000gvw cooler on unless you are running a high stall converter. Keeping the tranny fluid too cool causes sludge problems. 180°-200° is a good range.

i am going to go with the cooler that z mentioned because that style is highly recommended to me, it has a nice price tag on it and there is a summit warehouse in nevada so that means 2 day shipping. but if anyone else has any more info feel free to chime in for future references, and thanks to all above who had some input

I use a 24k B&M cooler. Works great with my 3500 stall. Keeps the tranny temp around 160 or below.

This probably sounds stupid but i thought our cars came with tranny coolers. mine has one mounted right in front of the radiator. it's about 3/4 of the size of the radiator, (mabey smaller), but looks like it came that way.

They do come with them but they are really only good for stock stalls. Once you up the stall you need to add extra cooling because of the heat it produces.

But for the OP. Ive got a B&M from ws6store if your interested
