    Which tranny

My friends dad has a 97 lt1 that they bought at the county auction, been sitting for a year or so and has no information on the mods.. it has a roll cage and lowerd, headers and a lingenfelter intake so far that they know of. They think it might be cammed but if so its extremely mild! Also is stalled but anyways their 3rd and 4th went out. He wants a new beefed up tranny so he can come to the strip with us but where what is a good transmission for this thing? Any info much appreciated.

The 4L60e in the car can be beefed up for drag racing.

You need a real good builder for that then. Anyone can build what they call a performance 4l60-E but finding one that knows how to make it hold power is a different story. I found this out the hard way. I am on my 3rd 4l60-e and I only make maybe 400flywheel. Last one went off like a bomb. A ton of guys have had good luck with Performabuilts. They race them everyweekend with about the same power levels. I was going to go with thier stage 2 but I let a dip shit talk me out of it and now I have to worry if the trans is going to leave me stranded again. They cost a bit more but have a very well documented history of reliability with that kind of power.
