My vette has 2.73 gears. Its sluggish in traffic but I find if I leave the gear selector in 3 its more responsive. Is it ok to do this ? Will it cause any damage to the trans off course its an A4.

No but your mpg's will suffer.. Other than that you're fine.. Your gear selector is just a fancy version of the 1-2-D-OD that is found in many cars. But inplace of the (D) you have a (3) like birds do..

On my reworked trans they reworked the valve body and I think when I have the manual valve in D (or 3rd) it changes the line pressure a bit cause it shifts a little harder. It just may be this trans failing again (long story) but having it there in D or 3rd should not hurt anything. Manually shifting a typical 4l60-e adds wear. just having the shifter in the D or 3rd position is ok.
