Swap from TH350 to 4L60E
Trying to get away from computerized automobiles, but would like to get the decent mileage of an overdrive transmission.
Has anyone here ever done a swap from a TH350 to a 4L60E transmission? The reason I ask is I am looking at a '73 C-10, and just happen to have a 4L60E transmission lying around. (from a '95 Astro) My understanding is that a 4L60E shifts when the computer tells it to, so it won't work in place of a TH350.
Am I better off with a 700R4?
Either way, how much modification am I looking at to get this done?

I would just get a 700R4. They are cheap anyway. You will have to get an aftermarket control box for the 4L60E. I don't really know what kind of mods you would have to do to make it fit, I have never had chevy truck like that.

get a 700r4. Only thing you need is to be able to lockup the converter. They make a very cheap peice that can do this for you but I can't remember where or what. Buying a ready to use controler package cost some big money. like 700 to 1300 bucks or you can F around with factory PCM's and try and get one of them to work and you still have to install other crap from the kit to get it to work. That part for the 700r4 is like 50 to 100 bucks max. Just have the trans built for preformance at a local trans shop that wont F U.

Thanks for the replies. Project is on hold right now- I lost the ebay auction. Picked up a Mustang instead.
When I get around to it, I probably will go with the 700R4.
