Is It smart to put a 4000 stall torque converter
I have a 99 z28 A4. My flywheel came loose over the weekend and The shop has to drop the trans to fix it. So I decided that I was going to replace the stock torque converter with a better stall. A friend told me to put a 4000 stall torque converter in the car but I think that that is a little outrageous for a stock z28. I was thinking of putting a 2600 stall torque converter that I purchased for my 96 impala ss that I never used. Will that 2600 torque converter fit and what is the best thing to do please help.

A 3200 is the lowest you should go. 4000 isn't that bad on a NA car. Is this car a daily driver?

I had my 3800 TCI in my car when it was bone stock for about 2 days. Extremely sluggish. I wouldn't put a 4000 stall in a bone stock LS1 unless it was going to get at least headers added pretty quick. A 3200 or 3500 stall would be a great convertor for a bone stock car that would be very comfortable with daily driving. I would not go under a 3200 like Ed said either. Anything under a 3200 is a waste of time.

You need to run a tranny cooler for sure with an aftermarket stall convertor. Heat kills automatic transmissions. Its also a good idea to get a shift kit with a convertor. I won't say its impossible to get low 12s or high 11s with a stock convertor, but I will say Hillary Clinton has a better chance of becoming President than running those times on a stock vertor
