Replacing clutch packs?
Hi, we took our 2001 camaro to have the transmission rebuilt around 8 months ago. Last week, while driving down the highway, all of a sudden 4th gear stopped working (it still drove, but the rpms were really high, it sounded weird, and if you let off the gas it immediately slowed down as if it were in neutral.) We are supposed to have an 18 month warranty, so we took it back to the place, which now we have been told and it is obvious that they are a terrible shop. They claimed the driveshaft had a hole in it (which as soon as we tried to look they changed the story and said it was out of balance, which is highly unlikely) and that the torque converter and 2nd to 3rd selenoid(?) is bad, and that those 2 things are under warranty, but what's causing the problem is bad clutch packs, which they claim do NOT fall under warranty since 'we brought it in low on fluid' not true, that is the first thing we checked and when we asked to check the fluid level he said he had already filled it back up. Anyways, he wants 1200 to fix it. We said all we wanted fixed is the clutch packs and the stuff under warranty, and he said it would still be 1200 because of the labor and that the clutch packs require a transmission rebuild. He said something else about the "bands" being bad as well and needing replaced. Is 1200 really the cost to replace clutch packs? Does it really require a transmission rebuild to fix that and the bands??

Bring them to small claims court. Once they get the notice they will fix the trans for nothing. Local courts never side with the repair shops and it only costs about 10 to 15 dollars to file. Go for it, you have nothing to lose.
My ride is a 2002 Camaro SS SLP #3296 with 30k, LTH, 3" Y, CME, Frost tune, K&N, ported TB, Blackwing lid, Bellows, MSD, Denso Iridium, and 85mm MAF, Bilsteins, Eibach springs, SLP strut brace, Adj. Panhard, TA Girdle, UMI, Pro 5.0, Nitto NT555
My wife has a 2004 GTO with the rare SAP, 18" wheels, K&N Cold Air System, MSD, Ported TB, Frost tune, Denso Iridium, Flowmaster cat-back, 3200 Yank, 75k

That was my first thought, but after talking to a nearby parts store we found out they currently have at least 3 pending lawsuits :/

Why let them off the hook because they do poor quality work and do not back up the service they do. The court system will help put them out of business which is where they belong. You will also receive a judgement against the assets when they liquidate. Please get your trans fixed and a quality trans shop which is recommended. Do not go to the franchise shops like Aamco, Lee Myles, Cottman or the others. They just overcharge and try to sell you a guarantee you should get for free.
