    1998 z28

    no speedometer

    my 98 z28 has no speedometer therefor wont shift. I have replaced the vss with a brand new one...it is getting voltage from pcm. is the anything else that could be wrong.

    speedo worked great until tranny rebuild. car hasnt been anywhere since.PLEASE HELP

    sounds like maybe they forgot to put the reluctor rotor ring back on the output shaft.

    pull the tail housing and see if it's in there.

    i will try that...that has to be about the only thing that i have not done at this point....thanks for the input....if anyone eles thinks of a possible problem chime in.

    You don't have to pull the housing - just remove the VSS and you will be able to feel the reluctor ring with your finger. If it is there then use a screwdriver and see if it is tight-just don't force it if it is.

    The reluctor ring should be tight -I think it is a press fit.If it feels loose when you check it with your finger or a screwdriver something is wrong. Can you feel it with your finger thru the hole ? What do you mean kinda loose ? It has to be solid on the shaft .The reason I say this is I just did all this stuff this week with the help of the above guys.Also if it is tight did you ohm the sensor ?

    i got sent out of town for work,but i have a guy checking it out for me. yes the sensor was checked. as far as i know all electronics are good. ill kept you posted when i find out myself.

    that was the problem speedo worked fine up to about 110 thats when it stopped shifting.shifted into 2nd fine but never tried to shift out of second. seems like a shift solenoid to me. is that what everyone else thinks
