No reverse, weak shift into Drive
Hello,
I have a 1998 C1500 with a 4L60E transmission. I have no reverse gear. I can shift into drive from park, but it feels weak. When I am driving, the shifts are at too high of an RPM for my acceleration. Also, I feel like the transmission is slipping. It's a hard feeling to say with certainty as I am paying more attention to it now than I was in the past. It feels like all the power isn't going to the rear wheels though. Does anyone have any thoughts on what this might be? The fluid was flushed at the dealer around 93k and the truck is currently at 102k. Fluid level looks fine, it's hard to get a good read with the dipstick.
Also, can you use an OBD II to pick up transmission error codes?
Has anyone used the Monster Transmission rebuild kits? Since I'll be most likely working on this transmission (unless the fix ends up being simple) is there anything I should go ahead and replace or get a better than OEM part?
Thanks in advance,Last edited by engineer1984; 05-17-2010 at 08:28 PM.

You might have a broken sunshell. It causes no reverse, 2nd gear and 4th gear

While D is selected, the truck will skip 2 and never get to 4. I can select 1, 2, 3 manually. We're thinking that the 1-2 solenoid (which also controls the 3-4 shift) is one culprit. But, the truck will still not even attempt to shift into R. So maybe two solenoids? But why at the same time?

nope thats definitely the broken sunshell. No reverse, 2nd, or 4th are the symptoms. Very common.
