    Interchangeability

This is a simple question I suspect has a hair-pullingly complicated answer: from 1998-2002, what year trans can and can't work with what year engine?

Also, did GTO's use the same trans as F-cars?

They are all 4l60e's from 98 to 02 and as far as I know GTO's used the same exact trans.
Any 98 to 02 will work on an LS motor. The LT1 4l60e's used different bell I think. Might also be something different in the input shafts length, but I don't know for sure.

Thanks...I know the LT and LS are different bells & input shafts, just wasn't sure if the LS1's were all the same. If they are...well, that makes life easier.

any 98 to 02 f-body ls 4l60e should work. I don't recall any changes to the trans wire harness that would cause any problems.

All 98-02 f-body A4 transmissions are the same. The truck transmissions have a different tail housing and linkage, they can be used on a f-body if you swap the linkage rod and the tail. The GTO has the same linkage and tail as the trucks but if the trans came out of a 6.0 they are 4L65E, which are stronger than the 4L60E. The 4L65E is interchangeable as long as you have the right linkage and tail housing.

    2000 4L60E in a 96 Z28

What would I need, to install a 2000 4L60E into a 96 LT1 Z28?? I can see the bell housing is different, but if I remove the alignment pin from the '00 trans, the bolt and alignment pin holes line up. I've heard that I need a spacer and different flywheel to make it work. I've read on here that I must change out the input shaft.
    Any help appreciated.

Hum I know I have seen the answer to this but can't remember. If you change the bell and the input you would be making it lt1 ready so you shouldn't need a fly. I just can't remember if you even have to change the input shaft. I know you do on the T-56 for lt1's to ls1's.
