Idiot messed up something in my Transmission

So I had my car towed to a shop because of some serious vacuum leaks I was having to figure out where they were coming from and the idiot that towed my car broke something in the transmission I think. The key won't come out of the ignition now and it did before he got in it to back it on to the tow truck. I think instead of pushing the button on the shifter and then pushing it into reverse he just pushed it into reverse. Let me know what you guys think the problem is. Also would something like this call for a new transmission, doesn't really matter if it does since insurance is covering it. If I end up needing a new transmission what would you guys suggest. Also I have an A4 just so you know.

The key won't come out unless it's in neutral or park.

I know, but even if it is in park it won't come out. Sorry I should have said that in my original post.

the release thing is under the console its just linkage. Put it in park and push it forward more it should pop. my old one did thisa few times. basically that and jimmywith the ignition your transmission is fine.
