Citrus(burn't) Orange- 2001 Camaro SS
How Much Can it HOLD?
I have a 2001 camaro SS with 111,000 miles. The trans work perfect and shifts like a champ with my diablosport tuner. but i just recently bought a cam(ms3) and heads(P-n-P slp) and i was wondering how much power can you put to the stock trans before it eats shit?

Our 4l60-e's are finicky they can tank with just bolt-ons. Are your heads stock just ported and polished, bigger valves? If you clean it out regularly and have a proper cooler that will go a long way to keeping it alive. A friend installed a 228 cam with a 3600 stall and his transmission went out almost a month later (so yah it's a crap shoot)

with any stall you NEED a tranny cooler... bigger = better.
there are a few weak points in our trannies you can upgrade =
hd sprag
the Beast sunshell
Transgo shift kit
Corvette solinoids

Eh the 4L60E can break stock, I'd personally start saving for a rebuild.

yea ive thought about that, so should i go ahead and put a beast sunshell, hd sprag, corvette solinoids, and transgo shift kit?? or just leave it stock and put a cooler on it???
And when i do replace what does it cost to get one rebuilt

I went out and got the best of tje best of everything and it cost about $2500 + the stall.
I did beat on the stock tranny daily for a year before it went.
you can pickup the beast sunshell for about $69, transgo shift kit for $200.....cant remember the price of the sprag and pump.
I also got the Raptor R input kit that came with the beast sunshell and sonnex carrier and Hughes race kevlar clutchs and steels, and 5 pin planets

so when you beat on your trans for a year, was it bone stock?

Beat on it all you want, but at least put a shift kit in it, and a huge auxiliary cooler, AND SAVE FOR THE FUTURE REBUILD.
I got no problem beating on shit, when i have money waiting to rebuild anything that could go wrong.

You may as well go throught the tranny while it's out. Since you are going to need to pull it to install a lose converter for that MS3 cam anyway.
That MS3 won't work well if at all with a stock converter, and I didn't see a converter on the upgrade list. Converter should be done before a cam,,,,or at the same time.
Chances are good if you chunk the tranny it will take the converter with it, or at the very least pass trash through it to the point where it would need cut open. So why not just go through the tranny now and save some money in the long run.

blacker than wesleysnipes- 98' trans am
converter + rebuild ..then cam ..the biggest problem with the 4l60e is piss poor flow..causing overheating issues. well that and the stock tunes cause slips for soft shifts.

It doent look like you would have much room for a transmisson cooler on the radiator and which cooler are you using?
