    High Stall on the Street

Im looking to put a high stall converter in my car to lower et's. But currently this is still my daily driver and im unsure how they are on the street and what would be a good rpm stall

I daily drive mine with a performabuilt 3500 and 3.42's. It isnt much different than stock when driving around.

Just remember, it will lock up around 45 MPH and drive exactly like stock.

It will take about a week to get used to it. So unless you get something above 4500, you should be fine. Even then, some don't mind it. Because it will still lock up.

I was thinking 4000. another guy at the track has a similar set up i will have this spring (same mods, different parts) and he runs a 4000 stall and runs 12.7's.

But if it drives normal above 45 mph, whats it like below that?

it does but youll want a aftermarket external one, a high stall tc will heat a transmission up alot, a shift kits a good idea as well

oh ok. i already planned on a shift kit. Do you have one in your car now? my trans shifts decent(itll chrip/spin if i put the pedal down around 20 mph and it downshifts) i have no idea what the car has done by the previous owner. Everything looks stock but the trans seems weird for a stock car to do that

i actually sold my car but it still has one in it where ever it is, the only reason i say get a shift kit is ive heard it helps to put less wear and tear on the tranny making it last longer, and it makes it more fun, but yea a aftermarket tranny cooler is a MUST have for running a high stall from everything ive read

It will rev higher and take a bit more pedel to get going.
Best thing to do is drive one. Also whatever you decide for the stall. Get one higher.

As soon as you get used to it, you will want more.

I started with a 3000 because I was worried. I ended up with a 3600. With more power, you don't need as much stall.

I'm running a 3,800 in the goat and daily drive it with no problem at all. I have it set to lock at 35mph right now.

the full Transgo shift kit is fun and I will highly recomend the Beast sunshell with a high stall.

a trans cooler is a must with a stall. goto the local auto parts and get the largest one they have in stock (heavy duty rv/towing)

I don't know much about autos and stalls being 6sp here, but would say a 3200 not engage until you get to 3200rpm's from a stoplight?

I know a guy with a 96 mpala SS telling me he was buying a kit and a 26 or 2800 stall, and I thought that seemed like a waste of money. He told me his car will be too loud going to 3200-3400 before it engages.

    Thanks for the info...

No...it will engage at a certain mph, whatever it's tuned for. Mine is 50mph for example in over drive. If I have it in drive it'll lock-up at 35.

car will move before it gets the the stall point no matter what the lock up is set at.
It just takes a little more throttle then say a stock stall car would.
