    Busted Tailshaft

Me and a buddy was driving down the road and I punched it and my car down shifted and made a pop sound, so we pull off the road and look. It was dripping trans fluid not real bad but was a steady drip. He looks under the car to find a crack near the middle of the tailshaft. My questions are, what can i do to make this not happen again other than baby it. Is there a part that will make this stronger? And what would make this happen? New gear/posi?

BTW my car is a 02 Z28, mods are diablo predator, auburn posi with 4.10 gear, k&n fipk. the rest is stock. Also the posi and 4.10 gear was installed Thursday april 13 and this happened the following saturday night!!

Any help is appreciated, also if anyone has a tailshaft for sale pm me.

I'm confused. A tailshaft is part of the transmission...but you are naming off a new posi/gear, which is in the rear end.

Are you talking about the rear end or the transmission?

The tailshaft on the tranny is cracked. My question is could the new rearend have anything to do with this? Or is this a weak part on the fbodys and if so is there a fix for the bad design?

If the transmission tailshaft is cracked then it is a trans problem, not the rear end, that wouldn't cause it to break.

Sounds like it could be a combination of things. Possible bad trans mount and the torque arm being mounted to the tranny tailshaft. Solutions include a new tailshaft for starters, a poly mount for the trans and a Spohn torque arm which mounts to the underbody as opposed to mounting to the trans tailshaft.http://www.spohn.net/category.cfm?categoryid=1049
