automatic transmission clunk on takeoff
Is it normal that when I take off from a stand still, (Wot or normal) i should hear a clunk or feel a small hitting vibration from the back? It doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen every so often. It isn't violent but its definitely noticeable. Is it something I should be worried about? Do your automatics do the same?
Also, when I shift into reverse it takes the car forever to shift into that gear. I've always assumed that that is a computer problem though..?2014 Camaro: Check. 2SS: Check. 1LE: Check. 6 Speed manual? CHECK

I would first check the transmission mount, u-joints, and rear suspension components for the source of the "clunk". Has the transmission ever been serviced -- fluid and filter change? Any codes?

Agree with Jeff. Tranny mounts seem to be a fairly common issue.

It may also be the "slip yoke" which is notorious for clunking.

Sorry it took me forever to respond.
The only code i'm throwing is a bad drivers side cat. Car has like 56k+ miles, is 2002, and i don't know if it's ever been serviced in the transmission department or not. At least for the 3 years I've owned it it hasn't. Could it really just be the filter and fluids gone bad? How do i check to see if the mounts or U joints are the issue?
I know about 2 years ago i installed new shocks (BMR racing springs). car already had aftermarket struts.

Years back mine was making a "clunk" noise from the back, it ended up being the rear end, had to replace it.

If the car isn't driven daily, sludge could build up in the trans filter and the valve body. Just to be safe, check the bolts for the parts you installed to see if they are tight.

With the rear of the car on jack stands, rock the rear wheels back and forth to see if the yokes of the driveshaft move before the actual shaft does. If there is play between the yokes and shaft, your U-joints are worn.

Hey this is the last time I'll raise hell about the issue cause i'm officially getting it checked out tomorrow, but I wan't to be sure i've covered everything here to get some more ideas on what to tell the guys to look for tomorrow.
1. from a decent take off from a standstill, it'll sound like the back of the car is hitting the ground (a "bang" noise sorta)
2. It also happens, WOT, during the shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear
3. It's either a few small bangs when I take off spirited, or one loud bang when I floor it (both from a standstill that is)
I don't know if this is relevant, but my back springs make bouncing noises over bumps whereas my front springs don't.
So far, from you guys I've been told to check
1 Transmission Mounts
2 U-joints
3 rear suspension components
Anything else? Does my description help pinpoint something else a little better?

Torque arm. And the panhard bar. I'd check those if you haven't yet.

I already fixed the panhard bar. If you recall a previous post of mine, some idiot mechanic didn't put 3 bolts back on it and I had to do it. Still didn't fix the clunk
I hope it has nothing to do with the torque converter or torque arm..cause they sound expensive

The torque arm isn't that bad. It doesn't sound like a torque converter problem to me, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Thanks for your replies knight
Verdicts in. Transmission mounts are shot; eay out of place and I think he said one was split, and AC needs an overhaul. 1300 overall but they said they'll help me out a bit with pricing.
