    any trans guys here?

it looks like I had an over pressure on my 3-4 clutch pack. It blew the snap ring and all of the parts of the input drum off that hold the snap ring. there was so much pressure it bowled or cupped the thick selective plate on the end. torn up quite a few transmissions but have never seen this. any ideas?

It may be a valve body issue. What was the psi before it blew ?

I'm still thinking something went wrong in the valve body if it was only one clutch pack.

I found a problem with the 3rd accumulator check ball in the servo bore. it was blocked by a piece of debris. wonder if that caused it?

You bet. The accumulator could not release pressure. Was the debris metal or clutch material.

looks like it might have been a bit of paper gasket. also cracked the plastic 1-2 accumulator piston. got an aluminum one on the way.

Ouch. That will leave a mark. I am glad you are upgrading the piston from plastic to aluminum. Use the best parts you can afford and you may never have to take it apart again.
