Aftermarket trans cooler with shift kit
I put a shift kit in my 02 Z28 about 15,000 miles ago and the trans fluid is starting to darken already. Should it have had a bigger trans cooler with the shift kit? or is something else wrong?

you should put in a seperate from radiator cooler. one of the absolute must have parts for an auto tranny. heat kills autos. if your uprading the tranny a cooler should be one of the first things you invest in.

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
I have a cooler separate from the radiator but I also have a 3400 stall...
7,xxx miles later(including some very hard launches at the track) and no problems...67 Camaro: K-K + 797-z (look it up), 454/Th400/4.10 12-bolt = 6mpg, PS/PDB/PW tilt, tach, gauges...
2005 Corvette LS2/M6 Magnetic Red Metallic (What else would it be?) w/ Cashmere interior
2002 Z28: NBM/Tan, MTI smooth lid, smooth bellows, !AIR, !cats, 1-3/4" QTP SS LT's, 2-1/2" TD's with X-pipe, MagnaFlows dumped at axle, custom welded SFC's, MidWest Chassis body mount adjustable T/A, 3400 stall, 3.23 gears (was 2.73). Tuned: 343rwhp/357rwt (before TD's). Best: 12.559 @ 108+, 1.73 60' @ 3500' DA w/MT ET Street DR's.
Carbon footprint? CLOWN SHOE!

mine is 11"x5 3/4'"x1.5". there really is no such thing as overkill in this situation. you can pick them up from autozone, online, wherever. no clue on the brand of mine because i just slapped it in and bought it for dirt cheap from a member on here a year or so ago. ive never heard of anyone with problems with a tranny cooler that wasnt caused by install. the 2 problems ive heard of with them were both verified install problems. they were only small leaks though. keep in mind the bigger it is the better it will work. but you only have a shift kit which means you dont need a cooler half the size of the radiator. unless you have future plans of course.

Depending how you drive 15,000 miles isn't that bad of an interval. B&M makes a nice piece. I currently have a cheapo on mine in conjunction with the stock cooler. I should really get a temp gauge, my power steering whines like a bitch after a couple of minutes of hard driving, I can only imagine how hot the trans gets.
And bigger pic of your avatar or ban.

I think it has more to do with the driving style than the mileage. I didn't put the shift kit in for towing.
Sounds like it can't hurt to put another cooler in.
Something to do when the snow is flying.
