Advice Please on Torque Converters
I'm beefing up my tranny and decided to get a converter as well. I'm leaning towards Fuddle, my question is do you think I should go with a 3400 or 3600 stall. This is my daily driver with full exhaust and lid. I've called several converter companies for advice, but I'd like to see what LS1 has to say. I appreciate any advie, thanks.

My vote is for a Yank 3600.

So the consensus seems to be 3600, what are the pros/cons if any to a 3600 over a 3400?

Yank or Precision Industries 3600. DO NOT buy any converter from Fuddle or TCI.

Why shouldn't I use TCI or Fuddle?

Converter's are one of those parts that you really get what you pay for. For a stock car a 3600 would be a good place to start. I'd aviod the fuddle personally, yank would get my vote. It will liven teh car up a good bit, probably knock a 1/2 second off the 1/4 times and will still drive fine.

Ok, thanks for the advice guys. I have two more questions; will a new torque converter require me to retune the car and how much does the stall torque ratio affect the car. I was reading "tech talk" on Yank's site and they were saying how a Yank converter with a 1.6 str was more efficient than the competitions converter with a 2.5 str, as the 2.5 str would lose its torque shortly off the line and Yank's 1.6 str would hold a good powerband throughout the 1/4 mile. However Yank only offers a 3600 with a 2.5 str, would that high of a str greatly affect my high end power?

Bright Red- 2000 Pontiac Trans Am WS6
I added a Precision Industries Vigilante 3600 to my car, originally put it in with bone stock engine. It definitely needed to be re-tuned to keep it from hitting limiter on every 2-3 shift, and sometimes on 1-2 shift. I didn't get it re-tuned until after the cam swap though, since I knew that was happening shortly after the converter swap. No idea what STR is on my converter but I also strongly agree that you get what you pay for as far as converters go.
The consensus is that the Vigilante or "VIG" is looser than a Yank of the same rated stall speed. Mine showed "flash" to just 3300 on the dyno with stock cam, but as high as 4300 with the new cam (and new power, obviously). Mine's been good enough for a 1.58 60 foot on a 100% stock suspension, 3730# race weight 2000 Camaro SS, so I am not going to complain.2002 Silverado Z71 ECSB HPTuners tuned by yours truly

I will not warranty my transmissions in back of a TCI torque converter, too many failures. I have not seen any failures with the Fuddle TC in front of my units so far. The Yanks are very good, but I prefer the Vigilante. What I like about the Yanks & Vigs is the large clutch area, workmanship, and the warranty.

Fuddle warranty rebuilt my convertor when the transmisssion failed and it had nothing to do with the convertor.Great service - always did what he said he would do.Great pricing - read his web site on comparing convertors - great information.Just my 2 cents

I've been running my fuddle for a few years with no issues. I got mine when John first started selling them and I would buy another one from him. I run a 3500 and probably wouldn't go any lower than that.
