alot of guys are going with a 3500 stall to start out with then building there motors after, you can run a stall with no other mods and it will not hurt a thing. I have pacesetter long tubes 3" true duals CAI and a few other minor mods, the next thing I want to drop money on is the 3500 stall.
If you are planning on putting in a cam and don't do it all at the same time I would do the stall upgrade first then hcam later.
Hope I helped you and good luck!

I put a SuperYank 3500 stall in my A4 and love it. I kinda wish it was a little more aggressive, but it's solid. The only other mod I would consider at the same time is a torque arm, especially since you will be dropping the trans anyway. No need to change rear end unless you want to further help traction (lca, phr).

Don't forget to do a tranny cooler. You may also have to get a tune for the stall. When I did mine I had to raise my idle a little bit and move my shift points a little. Some people have to reduce misfire detection which I didn't when I was stall only but had to when I did the cam.

Bright Red- 2000 Pontiac Trans Am WS6
After my Vigilante 3600 stall was in, my car would hit the rev limiter on the 2-3 shift at WOT. Once settings were properly adjusted via HPTuners, all was good.
DEFINITELY invest in a nice, large tranny cooler.

An upgrade to a TCI SF-29 flexplate would not hurt either, especially if your vehicle is an 01 or 02, they have pretty crappy stock flexplates.
Sub frame connectors would also help eliminate or damper the wheel hop.
