    will it support 500 HP?

    will this setup support 500HP?

ive got a 2002 Trans Am WS6, im planning on getting pacesetter coated LT's with a 3 inch TSP high flow catted Y, and a magnaflow catback. ive asked this on another thread before but didnt get much of a response- someone said i think so, and the other said just get true duals- i dont want the dumps, and the bassani will require me to make my own pipes from the headers

so what do you think? pacesetter coated LT's with a 3 inch TSP high flow catted Y, and a magnaflow catback

by the way- i wont be making 500 HP for a long time. i will eventually though. i was just wondering if i would be in need of a whole new exhaust system by that time.

in the future ill be getting Cartek 2x heads and cam, stall convertor at about 3200, 3.73 gears, and a few other items to complement the setup. i should be just north of 500HP. im following the same route my uncle took with his 98 C5. hes got 535HP, so im hopeful.

im not too into forced induction or nitrous

Fair question. If I understand what your asking here...."Will my bottom end handle 500HP?".....No. Yes. Maybe. Sorta. LOL.....seriously...
You ever look at the OEM rod bolts on a LSx? 3/8"....that be small and they are not built for it. So that is gonna be the first to go and take your engine with it. To get to 500HP (450RWHP +/-) you gonna get some serious intake/TB/Tune/Heads/Valves/Springs/Cam to get there.....then those lil pecker GM Rod Bolts gonna go on you....so build the damn engine front to back and top to bottom and go have some fun. I have seen so many H/C guys blow those stock bottom ends.....just not worth it....you can budget and have fun with a nice little cam/heads setup....but not at the HP your talking about.....put down 380-400RWHP and have a blast....over that and your talking trannie/rear end/clutch/bottom end issues.....IMHO of course...
This is my signature. It is mine. Nobody else has one like it.

well, i know i have to do some sort of build up, but im mostly talking exhaust. is 3 inches enough to flow 500HP worth of air through, without it being too much of a restriction? maybe 3.5 inches (i havent seen any though)

i will definetely build the motor up though, i dont want any issues later. my goal is to build a car capable of being a DD that will blow the doors off most cars. it wont be a DD, but it will be able to be one

I would think that the diameter of the primary tubes would be the most important factor here, like 1-3/4" minimum for 500Hp (and that is 500 Hp at the flywheel).

Sound advice Sarge. I hope to be a shade over 400rwhp and have some fun. Wanna get a short block on the engine stand just in case tho.

Thinking that most any LS1 header is that size.

I would think not. Single 3" catback will not flow 500rwhp, not even 3.5". Dual 3" catback 1 7/8 headers and 3.5" CATS will though.

Hmmm. Just checked my pipe flow theory. Vizard says 2.2xFWHP in CFM. So thats 1200CFM. A single 3 3/4 pipe will JUST flow that. A dual 3" will flow 1483CFM, dual 2 1/2 1005CFM.

In theory anway, a single 3" pipe won't flow 500FWHP. He needs dual 3".

    Ignore anything SLP sells.
Also ignore their power claims. They are badly bloated AND at the flywheel.
