Where to start with my 'new' WS6
I just joined the F-body family with the purchase of a 2002 WS6 Trans Am. This thing is already fast, but I'd like to make it faster. What are the best bolt on mods to start with? I have browsed through this site for the last 3 days, and I'm looking at a K&N and a SLP air box lid to start with. Advice would be appreciated...

Welcome!! And yes the first mod everyone should do is a SLP lid and a K&N. At the same time you chould do the FRA (Free Ram Air) Mod. www.installuniversity.com With FRA, K&N, and SLP lid you will have 10+ hp. Also don't buy your lid from SLP directly find it cheaper - check our sponsers. I paid $90 for mine.

A lid is always a good place to start. I would port the TB at some point also. Is the car an auto or a m6? Can't beat a stall for gains with an auto. A catback is another great mod. How far are you planning on going with the car? Headers is a great mod.

Taking it slow..
I just bought the car this week. It is an automatic, has 17000 miles on it. I picked it up for $18k. I wrote a check for it, so my wife will kill me if I spend too much too soon.
I'm looking to customize it a bit, adding a little color inside with maybe some seat covers and a steering wheel wrap. I also want to maximize HP gains with bolt ons. I really don't want to get into the engine, yet.
This is my first injected car. I've got a 88 SS Monte Carlo. All of my experience is with carbed cars, and I'm on a learning curb...

blacker than wesleysnipes- 98' trans am
You should get sub frame connectors soon...dents and t-tops poping off and doors not lining up aren't a good thing. SFC are going to be my first mod. i'd rather have my car be able to use all 3xx ya know...but lid and FRA is an great start for power

Skip the K&N filter. Waste of money. Get a lid and longtube headers/ory.

I don't intend to take it to the track, just looking for the best street performance. It runs great now, but I want to maximize what it has. I want to keep it driveable on a daily basis. After the air intake mods, I'll probably start header shopping. I'm thinking I should start with intake, move to exhaust, then get it tuned to make it all work good together. Are power programmers worth the cost? I've read a lot of mized opinions here.

save you moeny in terms of the programmers. wait until after you do induction/cat-back and headers for your first tune (either HP or Ls1 Edit) and make sure that where you get it tuned they know what they are doing. next move into looking at a cam and the supporting upgrades for it as well. once you start modding, you will catch the 'mod' fever and not stop. retune your car after the cam install and if you plan right you should have close to a 400rwhp daily driver you'll be sitting in. yeah!

I would start do the following in the respective order....
Throttle body bypass free mod
SLP lid/ K&N filer (descreen MAF)
Catback (I would suggest GMMG) pricey but worth it
Subframe connectors/ strut tower brace
Torqe converter
headers

I'd skip a catback and get a cut out right before the axle for the track and go right to headers/ory.
