Timing chain is good for a long time.
The time to change it is if you are doing a cam swap.
I am running the Crane single chain (adj.) on my 402. $180 or something...but may have gone up.

50-70,000 used to be the old rule of thumb back when Nylon cam gears were used. Those Nylon gears would just eventually give up.
Nowadays I think most new cars use a steel or iron gear set, which technically should last as long as the rest of the engine.

50,000 is for belts, not chains. chains last a lot longer.
