What do you do w/ 1k?

So I have a thousand dollars to put into an auto 99 Z28. Completely stock except for SLP lid, what do I buy? There is one problem though, when having it dynod, (297hp) I found that it was detonating and the A/F was around 14:1 under wide open. I have so far replaced fuel filter and plugs, and still here the same pinging under wide open. I was thinking to get Pacesetter LTs, OFR Y pipe, new fuel pump (hoping this is case of detonation), and maybe squeeze in a diablo sport tuner. What do you think?

If it's that lean, get it diagnosed and repaired first, then see what you ave left to spend. Personally, since you're an auto, I'd recommend a stall converter as your first mod. That and some decent tires will make more differernce than any other single part.

Car has 90k on it. I need a fitting so I can hook up a fuel pressure gauge and see what kind of pressure the system has. Im really curious to know what is causing this problem, hopefully nothing costly so I can get some go fast parts. Was also thinking maybe I could richen it up w/ the diablo sport....? Most likely not though....

    May need a fuel pump.
Do you have the dyno graph available?

I know it should be around 13.1, but it stays flat at about 14 the whole time.

Do you have a paper air filter or an aftermarket oiled gauze one? I'f you've been over oiling the filter when you service it, could be that the MAF is not reading incoming air properly. Wouldn't hurt to clean it.

Outside of that, you could try resetting the VCM to see if it relearns everything and resolves your problem.

Its not a K&N or anything, never oiled it. I guess it wouldn't hurt to clean the maf anyway. When I did install the lid i broke the plastic enclosure around the IAT sensor, butI doubt that would do anything.

    A) Get a pile of coke and some hookers.

    B) If your car is that lean, more power mods might increase the problems. Depending on how much you wish to devote to tuning either 1) Find a local friend who can tune or 2) get some lowend tuning capabilities (diablo) 3) get some cheap ghetto tuning capabilites (MAF translator,etC) 4) Spend your 1k on a cheap laptop and real tuning capabilities.

    C) gears, stall, drag radials, after fixing A/F ratio.
