What is this between the lid and the TB?

What is this thing which I've colored brown? is it needed for anything? can I just delete it and connect the lid to the throttle body?

Also... I see people say, get a lid... is this the stock one that everyone replaces?

Forget the name but it quiets the air flow. When you get an aftermarket lid the air being sucked in going wot is much more noticeable.

that is part of the lid i believe it is some kind of baffle ( not sure my car had an slp lid when i got it) and yes i would replace it with an after market piece they are much less restrictive

It is called a Helmholtz Resonator. It is designed to cancel out standing waves in the intake tract and reduce noise. What that really means is it keeps your car from performing like it should -- ditch it and pop on an aftermarket lid.

The "lid" is the part before the Helmholtz resonators and is a separate part of the air intake tract.

Guess I need to add "Junior Klugscheisser" to my profile in place of "Junior Moderator".

Hey all...I was to cheap to buy a new lid,,,so what I did to mine was cut that resonator off,,,,Now I used the cut off resonator (a select cut piece from it) to cover up the hole where the resonator used to be,,,Glued it with epoxy real good-let it dry rel good,,,the filled and sanded it,,and it looks alright,,,not to cheap looking,,,but does what I think is the same job now as an after market lid,,minus the better looks,,call me cheap...i am what I am,,I am a liberal spender it seems,,,ha ha,,,thats a pun for cutlass,,,ha ha,,no harm done,,

Seems like all the work you did you would have been better off and cheaper spending 90 dollars on a new lid.

heres the difference op. In red I outlined my aftermarket SLP lid. notice how it replaces the stock location and the baffle behind.

In blue is the throttle body

Actually the inside of the slp and all other "smooth" lids is just that: smooth, i.e., no reinforcing ribs like the stock lid has. Also, in order to have it work most effeciently you need to remove part of the base and cut out part of the separator to allow more air to flow into the lid.
