Sebring Silver- 98 Z-28 camaro
Water pump finally died
This past Saturday on the way to the store my water pump gave up and dumped antifreeze all over the road, luckily I was able to turn around and make it home before it got hot. I figured at 130,000 it was about time for stuff like that to go out, anyway I was impressed to find the newer model LS1 water pumps use O-ring crush gaskets instead of the old paper and RTV kind.
I bought a Bosch pump from Pep Boys yesterday and a new thermostat just to be safe, spent $265.00 on everything including Dex-cool. That's the only thing I hate about this car, the parts are expensive! The pump for my thirdgen would have only been around $20.00 - $30.00 for a new one. Does the timing cover use a O-ring metal gasket as well? It looked like it had one behind the cover, I should have installed a new cam while this was all torn apart.
Ahhh, I love my camaro even though it's a money pitt!
