Verify real LS1?
I'm taking my buddy tommorrow to look at an LS1 motor for his '01 Trans Am. The original motor threw a rod. The motor he is looking at is said to be complete with the exception of no intake manifold or oil pan. What should I look for to verify that this is actually an LS1?

its an engine, not a motor...
they are all aluminum and have exhaust ports similar to old school big blocks, where the center ports are not close together but all evenly spaced. see if you can get some casting numbers and run em

Most people use engine and motor intechangeably.
Heres the definiton from websters:
"any of various power units that develop energy or impart motion: as a: a small compact engine b: internal combustion engine; especially : a gasoline engine"
As for verifying the engine, best bet is the casting numbers.

Well if you want to be politically correct, it is either...not that it really matters, just thought I would point it out to you. But like coke, pop, soda, or whatever one drinks, who cares!!!
motor - 1. a comparatively small and powerful engine, esp. an internal-combustion engine in an automobile, motorboat, or the like.
2. any self-powered vehicle.
3. a person or thing that imparts motion, esp. a contrivance, as a steam engine, that receives and modifies energy from some natural source in order to utilize it in driving machinery.
engine - 1. a machine for converting thermal energy into mechanical energy or power to produce force and motion.
2. a railroad locomotive.
3. a fire engine.
