Red with Silver Stripes- 2002 Camaro SS LE
Throttle Body Coolant Bypass
OK, so I bought my 2002 Camaro SS LE a couple weeks ago and one of the modifications (really the only one) the previous owner did to the car was to bypass the throttle body's coolant line. He said that it is supposed to increase horsepower. Does this actually work? Also, do you compromise fuel efficiency at the same time?
Basically, should I leave it like this or put it back?

leave it, coolant runs through the the TB to keep it from sticking(witch will probably never happen) on reel cold day, bypassing it keeps the TB cooler, witch keeps the air cooler; it will not effect gas millege at all

I would put a vacuum cap on that coolant tube on the TB. It will just keep it clean just in case you want to reverse it later or sell it for a bigger one.

I would leave it alone....one less mod you'll have to do in the future.

The theory is to heat up the throttle body in cold weather and to cool off the throttle body in hot weather. That's why coolant runs through the throttle body as per GM's 02 service manual. I have no idea if it is a good or bad thing to bypass it. I would definitly cap those pipes if you decide to leave it.

when the moter is cool it dont do any good but when it gets hoter you heat the incoming are and lose some power when you bypass it you are just keeping that power so just keep it the way it is now you alread have a free mod done but ya caps would be a good thing

Yep, good free mod to keep the air going into the TB from getting hot/hotter.....the only time I could see it as a problem would be if you plan on driving your car when it starts getting really cold outside.....
