stupid SLP intake lid
i can't get my freakin lid to stay down. one latch always pops off. it has been like this ever since i got it on the car last summer. i know that other poeple have had similar problems and i was wondering what has been tried or done that has worked to make the lid stay down and in place and keep the latches from popping off all the time.

Do you have a bellows with it? Push the lid as far back as you can then clamp it. Its supposed to set on the inside of the tray

I have another brand but had the same problem when I first got it years ago. Push it back as far as you can like stated, the lip of the lid between the latches on mine had to be inside the lower lip of the airbox.

i've pushed it as far back as i can and holding it in place it latches just fine. as soon as i take the pressure off of it though it snaps back off.
i have not however tried to push it back so that the lid is on the inner portion of the lower lip. i'll have to try that next.
i tried using some electrical tape to shim it into place but that didn't work.
i also picked up some air vent shims which i haven't tried yet but intend to give a shot...unless i can make it work in the prescribed manner.
i just can't get past how shitty of a product slp makes/made and gets away with.

if you havent pushed it back too sit on the inner portion then it wont work, it has to be far back enough were the lid sits on the inner portion on the bottom tray or else it wont stay on meaning your clips. Meaning your lid should not be flush with the bottom lid and especially outward from the bottom lid. If you can get it to sit far back enough to sit in more your done deal.

You get what you pay for! SLP Lid = $99 and a shitty install and never stays in place. Volant = $220 but a nice install and you never have to fuck with it again!

You have to be creative.I had the same problem but solved it. If you cannot get ur lid to stay down, or the clips keep popping off when u shut ur hood, it is because your lid is not behind the flap on the lower end of the air box. Some think that the lid has to be flush with the lower airbox. Not true. I went ahead and cut a lil' off the bellows (slp lid end), to get the lid to sit correctly. DO not alter the clips because then they won't work the same when you figure out that your not getting a good seal, and try to do it correctly. Make sure your lid is sitting as far back as it can on the MAF, and like I said, cut a bit off the bellows, and it should sit correctly and the clamps should grab the lid without popping off.

I've never had an issues with my SLP lid, you just need to make sure it's seated in the tray correctly.
I also never wasted money on the Smooth bellow.Last edited by 9T8W66; 03-21-2009 at 05:32 AM.

once you figure out that the lid needs an "underbite" itll stay one forever. just shove it back! it wants to be wrestled. i dont like SLP either...but there is nothing wrong with their lid.

I had problems with mine until I seated it on the inside lip of the airbox. That should work for you.
