    Stripped Crank Threads!!!

okay... putting on the spec flywheel on today and used the bolts that came in the box(pressure plate bolts!!) that were about 1/2 inch shorter than the stock flywheel bolts. well, I was torking them down and the first one stripped!!! So I took it out and replaced it with the original bolt and it went in fine. I know that there is atleast 3/8... maybe half inch of good threads and the wrench clicked at 70 ft lbs. Do you guys think it'll be fine? Everything went together well, that aside. I just cant stop worrying about it. I'll have the car ALL back together tomorrow.

well, it seems she's holding up... i've only driven about 20 miles, but all the bolts seem like they are holding. No weird noises yet. I can hear alittle Swoosh like noise when it revs down, but I just think it's the weights on the pressure plate.

I don't know about this...if it were me I wouldn't leave it to chance. If a flywheel lets loose it is going to do a fair bit of damage. I'd have called spec to see what they had to say about the matter, first of all.

no loctite, but I don't think I need any with that much torque on the threads. It has held together now for about 150 miles of varried rpms and heat cycles, so I think it's fine. I asked the machine shop here and they said it would have been better to chase the threads out, but they think it'll be fine. I really doubt the flywheel would come loose, after all, there are 5 other bolts that are in properly and all torqued down multiple times.worse case scenario I think is that the bolt comes loose and gouges up the clutch and flywheel. I'm not pulling the tranny for a 3rd time unless I HAVE too.

well... it's been afew days and it seems to be holding together fine even after afew high rpm runs. Just curious though, what would a loose flywheel bolt coming out sound like? will they just fall out and clink around?
