SS Hood Fucntionality Debate - new evidence
A few weeks ago I installed a Volant on my 98SS. After doing so, I took a dremmel to the openings leading to the intake and doubled their size. After quick drive of up to 30 or 40 mph just to check it out, I found a ton of fiberglass dust all over the filter (and area enclosed by the volant setup) that had collected inside the hood during the process. I would think that this is pretty good proof that the hood is functional even at low speeds......

We already know they are good at making things dirty and a good CAI, but it still doesn't show nothing for the actual "ram air" thing that keeps getting debated. If someone can rig up an air pressure gauge in the intake some how to show a ram air boost then maybe it'll get settled.

I'd think you'd have to be going really fast to scoop more air in than what the engine would suck in considering the size of the scoop, but being sealed would get you closer. I think you can scoop more air with the FRA mod than what the hood would grab.

The ss hood is great and works but.... If your a quater mile racer the hood doesnt help much. When your motor get's hot the heat rises, which causes heat soak. The hood absorbs this heat and contains it but once you drive at a decent speed for a min or so the hood cools down and then becomes funtional.

I hate posts like this, I wanna poke fun sooo bad, but you never know if the guy's serious. By the way, saying you have a 2002 35th Z is silly, we all know it was the 35th and last year, and yours isn't a special edition 35th... Ha, I got to poke fun anyways. Now to go make sure I haven't written that on any of my signatures...

Heat soak vs. Cold air..... the debate lives on.
One thing is for sure, your air filter gets dirty quicker.

Light Pewter Metallic- 2000 Camaro SS M6
While this debate may never end, it's kinda fun to watch...unlike quite a few other debates.
Hey, have you seen a debate about the usefulness of fuel magnets? It's funny, too. "What do you mean they don't work?! The commercial says it does! It wouldn't be on TV if it weren't true!"
