Thumbs up so I cut my muffler off today....

It sounds awesome. at WOT I'm setting off car alarms but at idle it's not any louder than your average after market cat back system plus way cheaper and I still have the cats so it's still somewhat legal lol.

When I got my car smogged last Feb, I asked the guy about cut outs. He told me that anything done after the cats is legal. So, hope he was right

I looked at a NBM before buying my car that had no muffler. It sounded pretty good

It does sound good. I've got a flowmaster catback. I'm sure my car would sound much better without the muffler.

Let me know how it works out when you go to get your car smogged

lol, can't say i'm on the same page. i had to take my GMMG off today since the insurance is gonna be taking the car. I drove with it cut off at the i-pipe and i hate it. It's raspy in my opinion but different strokes for different foolks i guess

I will say that my old setup that was stock manifolds and cats with the cat back deleted sounded great! It sounded way better than my friends who had aftermarket catbacks and it was free! It was a lil raspy here and there sometimes but over all it sounded good. Now I have LTs, ory and a bullet muffler that dumps after the y-pipe that is a lot louder but still doesnt sound as good as it did before.

Something about an unmuffled V8 really sounds great, in a deep, bottom of the soul kinda way.

So im tried of having my car sound like a V6 when all my friends LS1's sound amazing. So since my muffler is just clamped on i was thinking when i put my LTs and ORY pipe on this week i might just slide that muffler off and put a turndown on it but do you think it was be like an annoy loud or will it have a good throaty sound to it? Also since i live in KS i dont have emmisions or any of that should i was thinkin of just putting a bullet SLP muffler on it so it appears to have a muffler so i dont get any flak from the cops. Any suggestions on this?

Through the cats and with the cutout open our car sounds great. I can drive through town with it this way and have no concerns about being too loud. However, crack on the pedal and it's an entirely different story. Kind of like kicking Godzilla in the nuts -- it wails.

I agree. if you don't have cats run a muffler. if you have cats cut that muffler off. the cats act as a muffler by themself, so having a muffler after your cats is kinda overkill IMO

I agree as well. I can't stand the mufflers sound on my cated system 01 Camaro. On my 24v z34 it was a different story tho. 3" High flo cat and an Iroc-z muffler had old ladys plugging their ears in first gear motoring up the street. Goose it and the alrms started chirping around it.. @ 7000+ rpm mmmmmm music!

To the OP, do you have a video of your car with the muffler off?

Here is a short half ass video of mine when I had my muffler chopped off before the rear axle. At first I loved it! It was loud and sounded mean. As time went on, it got old and annoying so I put my muffler back on. The only time it sounded good(when the muffler was off) was when I was WOT, it SCREAMED and I loved it, but puttin around town it sounded like shit.

amen to that. I used to have a borla catback with a slp y and hf cats but I think it sounded way too high pitched, like a v6 at times :/ So i just cut it all off and dumped the Y after the axle, sounds awesome imo. It does drone like a bitch on the highway but I love it, it sounds like classic muscle. At WOT though....it's just downright scary lol

I agree sometimes.. But the sounds vary between the v6.. For instance a 90* v6 has a distinct sound, almost dieselish.. The 60* has another sound little more harmonious @ higher rpms.. The 4valve v6's are also distintive in that their tone seems to resonate on it's own with the 2 exhaust valves per cyl.. Intakes always sound like they want more of everything..

ya I'm with you on that.. getting on the freeway is tons of fun but it doesn't sound great around town. it's not too loud, but you can def. tell it's unmuffled. and no I don't have a video of it
