    SLP Lid Hitting hood?

Noticed a little mark on the top of the lid, and it matched up to the top of the hood. Anyone else have this problem?

I have heard about it. Is your lid fully seated and positioned behind the lip of the lower air box?

I have an aftermarket hood that hits my Whisper lid. Didn't do this with my stock hood. If you figure something out lemme know.

If your lid isn't the problem, the rubber stops for the hood could a few screws outwards.

I have the SLP lid and it doesn't hit the hood but I have the WS6 Ram Air hood. You could also try sanding it down a little bit, maybe wet sanding it.

if it is a ws6 it might do that because the lower portion of the air box is taller than a non ws6 model firebird, or all camaros

Strange it rubs on the OP's hood and not on mine considering I have a ws6 also and the same lid.

You might try loosening those 4 top mounting 10mm bolts, then pushing the lower air box back if it will go any? Also maybe enlarging the bolt holes to allow the box to slide back some more? Food for thought? You only need like 1/8"-1/4" correct to clear?

it sounds like it's not on right i had the same thing with mine. the frount of the lid should sit in a slot in the bottom part of the air box. if it dosnt fit althe way back and you have there bellows that is y. you will have to trim the ends on the bellows.

I just remembered -- there are at least two different SLP lids out there. One has the raised SLP logo and the other is printed. The texture is also somewhat different. Not sure if there are dimensional differences as well.

The newer styled ones seem to fit better from what I have heard. The original Blackwing SLP lid (the one I have), is a 2-piece. The neck is a separate entity which is rubber that slides over the protruding piece of the lid itself. This makes the rubber piece of the neck hit on the bottom side, not allowing the lid to fully seat properly in some instances.

the newer style has the neck as part of the actual lid and it is raised a little for added clearance.

The pre 97 SLP one piece lids are bad about rubbing. ( the ones with the raised letters)

The ones made after 97 where the letters are printed and not raised do not rub. The older ones were slightly taller and that is what was causing the rub issue.

Try this and see it it helps:

First make sure the MAFS is pushed all the way in the lid, Second leave the bellow loose when installing/clamping down the lid, and third push down on the lid right above where the MAFS fits into the lid while tighting down the hose clamps on both ends of the bellow.
