Silly LS6 Intake Question
Ok, lazy man hear with a silly question. What is the size of the LS6 opening? Well lets just ask both questions even though I don't have my 99 z28 any more. What is the size of the LS1 and LS6 openings? Is it 75mm or 80? 85?
thanks

tx
any know the size of the stock MAF?
So far stock is a 75mm TB (guess that is at the butterfly out the back?) and a 78mm opening on the intake (LS1 and LS6?)
so...wonder what the MAF is.

^^ This it is. I measured my MAF as I had to replace it and the one I ordered from GM Parts Direct was larger and of a different design -- pretty sure it was 78 mm also. I'll go find the thread and add a link in a minute.

MAF actually measured 75 mm. Here's the other thread: http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113122Last edited by pajeff02; 11-25-2009 at 03:20 PM.

cool thanks for the post and thread. some times i can be super lazy.
i wanted to ask because I was looking at an 80mm TB on ebay for 40 bucks. I didn't want to spend the gas money on a bigger TB if the intake and MAF were going to be smaller.
Looks like I may just wait for a good ebay deal on a stock TB as my lab experiment to port it. I bought a very cheap and used MAF for the same thing. Man I suck at port work, but you have to start practicing some where.

so i read through that whole thread pajeff02. So the Intake is 78mm and the MAF is 75mm.
It's too late now to be banging around in the dark measuring car parts, . Maybe tomorrow morning I will have enough boredom to measure my MAF. I have a spare, but I have hacked it up to practice for a possible home TB port.

The high horsepower crowd on here all agrees that the stock MAF can feed almost 500 hp. Messing with the MAF only screws up your A/F ratio unless you are getting a tune to compensate for it. Porting the T/B will result in some gains, just be careful not to get into where the blade seats against the housing as this will allow additional air into the engine at idle and lean things out. They also have a bump stop mod to ensure that you have 100% opening at WOT. I know our car is just shy of this, but I have not yet performed the mod, nor have I ported the T/B.

That was the scariest part of the port. i read a few different posts. I'm buying my time and surfing for that killer deal on a used stock TB as my practice part. It is mostly to goof off. If i screw it up, well, I still have stock parts, . About a year or so ago i was super lucky and picked up a nice used stock MAF for like 30 bucks or something crazy. I'm not building a race car or even a bracket racer. I just want to goof off and have fun doing something. I asked about the intake size because I was watching an 80mm TB. I didn't want to spend my money on a 80mm part if everything else was less in size.
