People have different views on it. I removed mine and there for a while mine would set a code cause it would let oil from the K&N filter would get on the little wires. I don't know if it is worth removing it or not.

I've taken it out on both my SS's. I cleaned up the MAF wires(very carefully) and never had problems. I also have a K&N, and lid on both cars too. I have also done the free air mod and egr mod to both cars as well. No problems.

it frees up a few extra horses from what ive read, and all its supposed to do is line up the air so it flows straight into the intake manifold. Its only required for anything other than straight intake piping into the engine. I havent taken mine out yet, but i plan on it this weekend.

I took out my mass air screens and did the free air mod and my car loves it and I have no problems. IF your getting oil off your k&n filter theres to much oil on the filter.

In danger from what? I guess if your a4 shifts early and throws codes then worst case scenario is your get another to put back on. I have never heard of the shift early bit. I have however heard of the engine codes from oil getting on MAF and sensors. Just clean the MAF gently. You should do that periodically anyway. Especially if you have a K&N. Even with the screen in there the MAF will eventually get filthy anyway.

I used alcohol, q tips, cotton balls. Also cleaned my throttle body too. On mt SS vert, which I bought used with 70k on it, The MAF and TB had never been cleaned. The MAF was dirty as hell. I pulled the screen out and cleaned it up.Last edited by Huskerz1; 05-19-2006 at 06:14 AM.

huskerz1 did you do all the free mods to your cars.I have three of the five done so far but i'm debating on the t/b bypass and poting the t/b because I just saw a vr product that smooths out the air going into the t/b wicth is what you do when you p/p the t/b and it's $50 vs $100 if you don't do it your self

I have not done the throttle body bypass mod or the drill mod. I don't have any reason other than I just haven't done them yet.

Took mine off yesterday, I noticed exhaust note is a little deeper and throttle response is "a" hair faster .
