    Question

    can someone please tell me what that dark plastic piece is that's attached to my alternator? bonus points if you can tell why there's a dried orange gelatinous substance inside it. looks like coolant

    Looks like some sort of shit shield to keep debris from getting behind the alternator and wiring. As for the orange stuff, its possible thats it dexcool leaking from the water pump and dripping down. I guess I would try look deeper to see if its wet by the weap hole on the pump.

    What side of the water pump is the weep hole on? I spent about an hour looking for it with no luck. Do I need to do some disassembly?

    I looked for a while and could not see it. I believe its underneath the pulley. If you did not see any wetness around the pump, then its not leaking.
