    Problem with Catalytic Converter

My car is throwing an OBD II Trouble code that says Catalyst system efficiency below threshold. I am pretty sure my passenger side Cat has gone bad due to the horrible rattling of something inside of it and the trouble code. I am in the process of buying a set of lt's and ory, but until then I would like to get rid of the rattle. I was thinking of gutting the cats until I got the lt's and ory, but I've been hesistant because of 2 problems. I know it will throw a code and make the SES light come on, but without o2 sims, will the computer put the car into some sort of gimp mode with gutted cats? And are required emissions tests coming back to Oklahoma anytime soon. I've been debating whether to put it on stands and take that damn thing out for the past 3 days. Decided to get some feedback from you guys. Thanks for your time and let me know.

P0430? Lots of posts for that and P0420 (drivers side). If your under 80K stock cats are covered under the federal emissions warranty. Rear 02s monitor the cats - codes won't affect performance if you decide to gut them, one coming apart inside isn't helping you though. Can't help you on the OK emissions, gotta love Florida.

Basically keep the code stored and visit the dealer for free replacement if you're <80K. Go to the main forum page and search for "P0420" w/o the quotation marks...
