Ported stock throttle body worth it?

Please see the mods listed below. I'm thinking about having my stock throttle body ported on my 2002 SS. Do you think it's worth the $65 + shipping? Pardon my ignorance, but can you also tell me a little about the "bump stop" mod. Thanks, JB!

of course it is. the bump stop mod allows the blade to be opened to a full 90 degrees at wot, from the factory it's only around 85 degrees.

this thread should be moved to the external engine forum btw.

Hello. I'm going with New Era Performance. In the Group Purchase section they are offering the service for a discounted price of $65.00. While I'm not too thrilled about not being able to drive my car for a bit, I certainly think it's worth $65+ to have it ported and to do the bump stop mod.

I am surprised to see how positive the feedback has been....haven't had a single person say "It was a complete waste of time and money"!

FYI, with access to a autotap type tuner anyone can do the bump stop mod, and decent shop should be able to port it for you also. I know everything says that it is great, but anyone have any numbers? I don't see it really getting any huge gains without at least an upgraded H/C combo. Probably get mine done anyway at my shop soon haha.

The $65.00 price is for the porting and I'm not sure how much additional it will cost for the bump stop mod. See the New Era Performance post in the Group Purchase section....their regular price for the TB porting is $75.00. The guys at NEP run a nice shop and are great to do business with. I bought my 3.90 gear from them and it was here in no time!

According to the post, once they receive it, they will port it and send it back to you the next day. I was going to do this, however since my car is a DD and I might have a buyer for my other car, I'm going to get my local performance shop to do the work. The labor for removal, porting, bump-stop mod and re-installation on my car is going to cost $125.00....overall, not a bad price even if it only nets 4 - 6 RWHP. At least I will be able to benefit more when I do my heads/cam swap in the future.

Well, it's by no means as cost effective as a 150 shot of the "GO" juice, but it is a little better than some of the other mods. I view this as a "gateway" mod....I might get a little out of it today, but after a head/cam swap, I might be able to squeeze a little more out of it (hence making it even more cost effective).

Agreed! I would rather drop an extra $60.00 to make sure I don't screw something up! HAHA!
