pacesetter long tubes & y pipe

Just ordered these bad boys. i told myself i wouldn't modify my cherry z28. but the bug bit me.

now all i want is for everyone here to tell me how much more nasty my ls1 will sound with the long tubes and y pipe + my already installed flowmaster (which was on the car when i bought it)

im researched the gains, but what do ya'll think would be an aprox.

i trapped 104mph stock w/ the flowmaster muffler

my car is a 01 z28 all options leather convert, etc... pretty heavy.

Mines getting installed right now, but i'm not getting it dynoed. I would expect an extra 20 rwhp untuned.

    can't wait.

i love pissing of the hippies in portland with just the flowmaster.

needs some wider tires, too hard to launch even on a preped track.

headers and y pipe should be at home when i get there... can't wait to take them into the bedroom and have my way with them lol...

i messed around with a guy in a ls1 SS camaro, he said he had heads/cam/headers/exhaust/etc... no tune... it sounded nice but it really ran terrible. i told him to not tell anyone it was heads/cam until it got tuned.

he didn't pull my stock 01 vert z28 with my gf and i in it until 3rd gear. and he didn't pull that hard kept hitting the limiter on it, and he said his head/cam package wants to rev to around 7000-7500 but he hits the limiter at 6500.

    sounded good though.

Dont wanna spin a stock bottom end LS1 past 7000. I'm sure his cam peaks way before then. I had the Flowmaster 80 on my car with Mac headers and ory and thought it sounded pretty weak. Nothing at all like my friends LT1/Flowmaster set up. Ditched it and got a Borla catback.

I would get a different catback. Flowmaster's are going to be holding you back atleat 5 RWHP especially if your just using the muffler. Look into a LM1 or LM2, or even a Borla, Hooker or Magnaflow. Either way you will love your good 'ol Pacesetters.

^ If your bent on the Flowmaster sound (gotta admit, they do sound sweet), just get yourself some electric cut-outs, and when it comes time to race, simply open them up....

I actually love the sound of Flowmaster. Look how there designed though. You can tell how that would effect air flow. Most other mufflers are more of a straight through design.

    Flow master

    went ok.

i had all the exhaust and stock manifolds out after only about an hour.

but i have a few gripes about the header "kit"

the hardware that comes with it sucks, instead of giving you bolts that thread into the egr and air holes they give you long skinny bolts with nuts for the other side :
the spark plug boots piss me off, they are hard as fuck to get off, i ended up using vice grips on the end of the boots to get them off...
this kit says it comes with "o2 exptensions" now to me that means a length of wire with two plugs on each side... an extension. no it comes with a spool of wire and a bunch of cheesy connectors, that really pissed me off cause i had to do a bunch of wiring.
the Y pipe is flared to slide over the collectors on the headers, its not flared enough. so the exhaust shop has to do it
all the pokey things around the coils that mash your hand to peices. my hands look like jenna jamasons asshole
check engine light from no secondary o2 sensors... have to buy o2 sims

actually putting the headers in, is very easy and as simple as can be. the passenger slide right in, and i had to grind that stupid tab off on the driver side and that one slide right in.

drove it home open headers, its really loud... have appointment at 11:30 for the exhaust guy to flare the pipe so we can put it in...

the headers look good in there and there is a lot of ground clearence... hope it sounds good after entire exhaust is hooked up

took me about 6-7 hours, considering i had to rewire a bunch of shit and i fumbled with the y pipe for a while and also took some breaks

Why wouldn't your stock air/egr bolts work? Tuning and or 02 simms are a given with any header install. Anyone that does their homework here should know that aftermarket 02 extensions are recommended. Also, most people would test fit the collector/y pipe at home while it's on your living room floor to know ahead of time if any problems will arise.

why does it matter? it has to go to the exhaust shop either way to get hogged out and to be welded to my existing exhaust.

    reading comprehension > you

the headers said it "came with o2 extensions" and it was just a bunch of wire LOL

i already know about the tuning/o2 simms. thanks though
