ORY vs Catted Y
Is the a real difference between the two (besides the smell)? For example, the QTP Y-Pipe is available in both variations, but the justifications for the the two are mixed. So what do I have to gain/lose with/with-out cats on a 3inch Y pipe?

If you dont have to worrry about emissions go with a Ory, if you do then go with a high flow cat setup.

From what I've heard, cats are good for emissions, reduced smell and a little lower noise levels. Without cats; a little more loud, a little more smell and a more tinny sound to the exhaust. As far any gains without cats.... nothing you'd be able to feel or measure.

Maybe a 2-4 horsepower difference, not even worth the trouble you could get into, get high flow cats.

IMO most exhaust systems sound better with high flow cats. It kills the rasp a lot of exhaust combinations have. And its good for the environment
But just like anything else its a give or take because its much cheaper to run an ORY.

If your looking QTP, check out their dual Electric cutout version.....well worth it if you like a deep full-out racecar sound and still be able to quiet it down on the hiway..... but on your question the diferences.... yea lil smell, lil better flow, lil louder, but nothing major gain-wise, maybe 3-4 as stated above....

I'd say difference is price and sound. Personally I like the ory sound. I have a very lopey cam (232/236, 111'lsa) and don't notice much gas smell. (I like that too).
