open cut out,the good and bad

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a open cut out.I just uncapped my cut out and I cant stand the raspy sound around the 2-3000rpm range after it is ok and it sounds great at idle.I have a 228 236 ,588,114 cam and ported heads, mac headers, ory and magnaflow catback.Do you gain power low rpm and high both.I have around 400 rwhp.

Capped will have better numbers in the lower RPM's.
Open will have better numbers in the upper RPM's.

Until I stop hearing about those electric cutouts leaking....I will stick with manual ones.

Fwiw the Mac header set up itself is really raspy. I switched from Macs to long tubes last year and there's less rasp.

I'm with you Mr. Lous i'd love one but not if its going to leak. I hardly ever close mine only on long highway trips or when I forget what my hooker catback sounds like. There's a very dramatic difference between the two its kinda nice my car can be mean and agressive or smooth and mellow.

Are you running cats? If your not that is probably why you have so much rasp. With macs, cats and open cut out I have little to no rasp.
