old school round air filter flow question

is there any reason why the flow could not be reversed on the old school style air filters...the round 14" versions. just the filter element is all i am concerned with at this point. so instead of the air entering from the outer portion of the filter and be cleaned could the air enter from the inner portion and move towards the outside and be cleaned just as well?

Nope. It will still filter the air, and this is exactly how GM did it on 1990 era 3.1l cowl induction Z24s.

Ask me how I know. (My winter car is this!)

    What are you planning?

That'd be nice, and different. The cowl area is a higher pressure than the front of the car.
